Mog Digest, Vol 79, Issue 4

No, I was not along for that one, but clearly at a "clean car" contest a mog is no threat to anyone. My mog at least. My truck is MANY thing, but clean is not one of them.
Perhaps I could put a SMART car mount on the rear of the 1017.

We got the cold shoulder at MB too..

We got the cold shoulder when we showed up in our 1300. They denied that the elephant was in the room. Oddly, they were on me like stink on shit when I show up in my BMW M5 a few weeks later.
I, like Mark, was less than nice to them. As a side note I have a buddy with an E500 and he has had plenty of issues, some of which were throwing undocumented error codes.

NGK BP5ES Spark Plug Gap?

I have the Pertronix kit provided by EI with the NGK plugs. I installed it a
few years ago in my 404, and I am now doing a basic system check and tune
up. The installation instructions state "Install Spark Plugs - Check and
Gap", but the gap is not given. Is it the same as the factory setting?

There we were, minding our own business....

There we were, driving along on a dirt road along the Mogollon Rim in Arizona, minding our own business. We had not seen another vehicle in hours and we came upon what first appeared as a forest fire. As we got closer, it turned out to be a controlled burn with a bulldozer close at hand, piling the timber into a heap so it would burn better.
When the dozer driver saw us, he pulled onto the trail and got out of the cab. He came over to talk and I thought that he was going to say that the road was closed due to the fire. But, that was not the case.

NAPA Paint, now KRYLON at Wal-Mart

Hello Fellow Mog Painters,
My local NAPA didn't have the KRYLON camo paint,
nor did the first half dozen or so other places I called.
I happened to talk with Michael Smith from Unipaser, and
he suggested wal-mart.

Greetings from Show Low, AZ

We are nearing completion of our 6 month road trip. I have posted a set of new photos on http://www.billcaid.com/2010/HogHunting20100323/Part33/Part33.html that show recent adventures including our meeting with the Albuquerque moggers.

telescoping hydraulic ram woes

I disconnected the hose from the hydraulic ram that operates the dump
bed on my 416, and the bed would still not come down all the way (I
pushed the little valve inside the quick release connecter to release
any pressure and fluid still in the line). I reconnected everything
and put the bed back up so I could securely lock it up. I noticed
that all the smaller hydraulic cylinders went up normally, but the
largest one (the one that won't go down all the way) went up last (it
should go up first) and got stuck half way up and eventually went all
the way up.

And....WD-40 fixes it?

I have continued to have sporadic problems with my 404.1 w/ M130 and
Weber carbs. It would run great for 30 miles of highway, or 5 or 15,
then start burbling out the exhaust and losing power. Or it'd run
like poo, then I'd stop for a few minutes, and when I took off again,
it was running right. Or sometimes switch from good to bad and back
to good over the course of a few miles on the dirt roads, or while
hauling things around the homestead.
The fuel pump is solid. Fuel pressure is right. Fuel delivery is
smooth and consistent. Filters were all clean. Plug wires and plugs
good.
